Arisha Shehzad
Arisha is a 14 years old girl, who has two sisters and one brother. Her mother, Sakeena, is a midwife who worked in a hospital but stopped two years ago to take care of her. Her father is employed as a salesman at a garment store.
Arisha has Down syndrome. When she was six months old, she suffered from fever and a blocked chest. Her parents took her to the doctor at the children’s hospital, where she was diagnosed with Down syndrome.
She has been attending our program for only two months. She has now started menstruating but can manage her personal care, with some assistance from her mother, which was a key reason Sakeena decided to leave her job.
She prefers wearing boys’ clothes and has a boyish haircut. Her understanding abilities are improving day by day; she loves music, often listening to it, and although she has not attended regular school, she enjoys books.
She is a very shy girl and hardly interact with her peers or teachers. Her behavior has shown improvement since she started with us, and her parents are pleased with these changes. We are providing Arisha with Speech therapy, Ocupational therapy, and assistance with other life skills.
